David Popovici is second at 46.51 seconds (Singapore 2025) and third at 46.56 seconds (Paris 2026). The ranking uses official race times in 50 m pools recognised by World Aquatics, following Wikipedia's all-time performance table, as of August 2026.
The 100 m freestyle is swimming's blue-riband sprint, and its all-time list has been rewritten almost entirely in the last five years. Pan Zhanle's 46.40 in the Paris Olympic final took 0.40 seconds off the world record in one swim — an enormous margin at this distance — and no one else has come closer to it than David Popovici's 46.51.
