How we ranked this

Buildings are ranked by height in feet as listed in the 'Tallest buildings' table of Wikipedia's List of tallest buildings in the United States (revision 1381069070, last edited 19 October 2026). The page says the table ranks the 100 tallest completed and topped-out buildings in the US based on standard height measurement (the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat method), which includes spires and architectural details but excludes antenna masts. Rows the page marks as topped out but not yet completed are excluded; in this revision the rows so marked (highlighted: Cipriani Residences Miami, 950 ft, and the 400 Lake Shore Drive North Tower, 877 ft; asterisked: Waterline, 1,025 ft, 520 Fifth Avenue, 1,002 ft, and 125 Greenwich Street, 912 ft) are all far below the top ten, so the exclusion changes nothing here. Heights are as the table gives them in feet, with metres rounded to the nearest whole metre by the page; the chart uses feet. Trump International Hotel and Tower and 270 Park Avenue tie at 1,388 ft (423 m); they are ranked 7 and 8 in the order the page lists them, which is not a height difference. City, floors and year are as the table states them, except One World Trade Center's floors (see below). The page defines its 'Year' column as the year a building was or will be completed, but for some towers it matches the topping-out year: One World Trade Center topped out May 10, 2013 and opened November 3, 2014; 432 Park Avenue topped out October 10, 2014 and was completed December 23, 2015; One Vanderbilt opened September 14, 2020 (each building's Wikipedia article). One World Trade Center has 94 stories, with its top floor numbered 104.

FAQ

What is the tallest building in the United States?

One World Trade Center in New York City, at an architectural height of 1,776 feet (541 m). It has been the tallest skyscraper in the US since it topped out in 2013. The absolute tip, or pinnacle, of the structure is measured at 1,792 feet.

Why does the ranking exclude antennas?

The table follows the standard height measurement used by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, which counts spires and architectural details but excludes antenna masts. Wikipedia's page keeps a separate table of tallest buildings by pinnacle height.

Which city has the most buildings in the top 10?

New York City, with eight: One World Trade Center, Central Park Tower, 111 West 57th Street, One Vanderbilt, 432 Park Avenue, 270 Park Avenue, 30 Hudson Yards and the Empire State Building. Chicago has the other two, Willis Tower and Trump International Hotel and Tower.

Is One World Trade Center the highest occupied building in the US?

No. Wikipedia's page notes that its observation deck elevation and its highest occupied floor are surpassed by Central Park Tower, 432 Park Avenue, 111 West 57th Street and Chicago's Willis Tower. Its spire is what brings it to the 1,776-foot architectural height used for this ranking.

Where would the original World Trade Center towers rank?

The North Tower stood 1,368 feet and the South Tower 1,362 feet, per Wikipedia's page. Placed in this table alongside One World Trade Center, they would rank ninth and tenth, just below the two 1,388-foot towers and ahead of 30 Hudson Yards (1,270 ft). The page's own text says ninth and tenth with One World Trade Center excluded, but by its table's heights, excluding One World Trade Center would put them eighth and ninth.
